TÜV Rheinland i-sec - Industrial Security: AIR GAP – Yes or No!?
In times of digital transformation and industry 4.0, networking in the manufacturing industry is taking on new forms. The aim is to integrate consumers and partners into production processes. To ensure control and security, industrial control zones are segmented and separated from enterprise IT. The approach of separation by so-called air gaps can no longer be assumed with increasing degree of networking and the increased demands on data exchange.
In a live hacking lecture, TÜV Rheinland will demonstrate the challenges this presents. In this presentation, TÜV Rheinland works in the role of an attacker in a fictitious scenario about various weak points in the company network into a production network and shows the consequences that can arise if an attacker penetrates.
The presentation illustrates the challenges companies face when it comes to a clean separation between office and ICS networks.
