Supporting Programme 2018
thycotic - Privileged by nature? Why traditional security perimeters are no longer sufficient.
That the (IT) world is undergoing rapid change is nothing new. Buzzwords such as "digital transformation", "Internet of Things" or "Industry 4.0" are merely expressions for an increasingly complex IT landscape, which increasingly also "non-IT" employees have to face.
We are still trying to counter the associated security concerns with traditional and complicated methods: Network segregation, firewalls, antivirus and blacklisting of applications are just a few examples. The problem: Such solutions help us to minimize the risk of attacks, but they also minimize the freedom of those working in the company - they minimize your employees' ability to creatively and independently solve complex problems within your job and thus quickly and successfully generate added value for your value chain.
So we need to think about how we can protect our company without "leaving behind" many opportunities and possibilities provided by the buzzwords mentioned above (and certainly others as well). A central component of these considerations is access to resources: who can access what, when, what can be done there - and why at all. Privileged Account Management (PAM) is the first logical step and was rightly listed by Gartner as the number 1 priority for CISOs in 2018.
