Rhebo - Cyberwar and Downtimes - How industry 4.0 challenges Critical Infrastructures Vortragssprache Englisch

MANAGEMENT

The ongoing upscaling of networks and the increasing complexity of control systems within Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things lead to vast challenges in network management and security. Thinking of the increasing convergence of the IT and OT landscape, challenges of cyber security are bigger than before in protecting the network against attacks from inside and outside. But also, the continuity of the control system requires different means to face these new developments.

With the IT security law of the German Federal Cyber Security Authority (BSI), significantly increased requirements are being made. These milestones represent a necessary development in terms of cyber security and continuity of critical infrastructure. A key ability of a future control network is an anomaly detection, which is named by the BSI as an essential monitoring tool for the Defense-in-Depth principle.

Examples of possible anomalies in critical infrastructure are shown in this lecture that threaten network availability and security. These anomalies can be detected and displayed automatically by a network condition monitoring. Network managers can react to threat events and are enabled to comply to the official regulations. Furthermore, it empowers them to act proactively. Detecting anomalies automatically in a control network means to have the needed transparency for the challenges of the future.“
