Myra Security - Bot attacks: 50% of your web traffic affected
Only half of the web traffic is generated by human users, the other half by computer programs. Countless bots scan the internet fully automatically. Some of them are beneficial – for example, Googlebot. It scans webpages to update the search engine index and the ranking within search results. But other bots are malicious and cause immense damage to the website – undetected by the operator.
Malicious bots, disguised as legitimate users or good bots, access websites from different IP addresses and from different networks. Therefore, they remain undetected for system administrators. The methods of their attacks are diverse; their motives, too: automated spying on prices (price scraping), products and content (web scraping), blocking of shopping carts, extensive testing of user data and passwords (credential stuffing), bulk purchase of hype products, etc.
With a unique fingerprint, unwanted and malicious requests can be identified, blocked, confronted with human interaction challenges (e.g., CAPTCHA), or otherwise controlled.
