VMRay Analyzer is a software product that detects and analyzes malware. Unknown files from the Internet (e.g. downloads or e-mail attachments) are analyzed in a "Malware Sandbox" to determine if they are malicious. The sandbox provides a controlled and isolated environment for the execution and monitoring of these files. Every aspect of a file’s behavior – for example, every access to the local file system, every established Internet connection etc. - is monitored and logged.
Malware sandboxes have become a critical component of the following security use cases.
Advanced Threat Detection
Unlike traditional antivirus solutions, sandboxes that use behavior-based analysis can detect not only known malware, but also new, unknown malware ("zero-day malware"), thus enabling organizations to protect themselves from the latest threats.
When alerted to a threat that may have bypassed traditional security solutions, malware sandboxes allow security analysts to respond rapidly so they can stop an attack in progress and prevent its spread or recurrence in other parts of the organization.
Threat Intelligence Generation/ Threat hunting
In addition, sandboxes generate actionable intelligence which enable security teams to not only respond to an attack but also proactively hunt for undetected threats resulting from past breaches.
Unlike sandboxes from other vendors, VMRay Analyzer analyzes malware from the hypervisor layer outside the analysis environment, thus making the analysis process completely transparent to the file under investigation and prevents the file from taking any countermeasures to conceal its maliciousness. The method is particularly effective against evasive, complex and targeted attacks in which attackers use all available means to detect and circumvent security solutions.
