Juniper - The game of cybercat and cybermouse: Improving the mousetrap
MANAGEMENT
We often hear Cybersecurity referred to as ‘a game of cat and mouse’ with organisations building better and stronger traps to prevent nimble hackers from gaining access to their systems and stealing, selling or damaging data. It seems that as fast as new traps are set, hackers work out ways to circumvent them and the “game” continues. This approach just is not working, and proof of this is that every year we see more breaches and cyber-attacks making the headlines. With all the money and resource that’s invested into the deployment of security solutions to keep the bad guys out, they keep finding new ways in. Maybe there’s a different way of looking at the issue, perhaps it’s not about having more security but about making better use of what we have and only adding new technology where it can clearly provide time, data or resource benefits. We will take a sideways look at this problem, less focus on technology and more on ‘why’ and ‘how’. We’ll think about how to bait the trap....
